Scuba diving accident kills Belize tourist

December 26, 2008

SAN PEDRO, Belize — A man died today while scuba diving with his wife and two children off Ambergris Caye.

Paul Hooker, 54, was scuba diving with his family and two other American tourists at the Emeralda dive site when he fell unconscious after resurfacing.

Attempts to revive Hooker with CPR failed and he was pronounced dead at the Ambergris Hope Clinic.

Police said the tourists were diving with a professional divemaster.
