BOCA RATON, Florida (11 Jan 2009) — Two more divers were hit by a boat while diving in Florida waters. Two women in their 20s were rushed to Boca Raton Community Hospital after a boat hit them just before 2:00 pm while they were diving about 100 yards from shore. Boca Raton Fire-Rescue division chief Bob Nelligan said the divers' injuries were serious but not life threatening because they were hit by the boat's hull, not its propeller. "It absolutely could have been a lot worse," Nelligan told reporters. Just two days ago, another diver lost both legs after he was run over by a power boat. Robert Murphy, 26, was spearfishing with several friends off the Dykoke commercial dive boat when he was hit by a 38-ft power boat named Master Plan, which was driven by Dr. Roger Nicosia, a resident of Stuart, Florida. Officials credited the professionalism and emergency preparedness of the dive boat crew for saving Murphy's life. |
