HOOK ISLAND, Australia (18 Jan 2009) — Another tourist died after a diving accident off Hook Island in the Whitsundays.
Officials declined to identify the victim and the dive operator but told CDNN a 55-year-old man died on yesterday while snorkeling near Hook Island.
A 25-year-old tourist died in November while diving with OzSail in the same area.
In May, CDNN reported that OzSail delayed notifying authorities that tourist couple Richard Neely and Allyson Dalton, who were scuba diving off the company's Pacific Star tour boat, were missing.
The subsequent investigation into that accident found errors by the dive operator and recommended that OzSail and scuba diving instructor Kylie Irwin be prosecuted for criminal negligence.
CDNN was unable to confirm that the tourist who died yesterday was diving with OzSail.
