Diving accident kills Oregon man

by LUTHER MONROE @ CDNN - CYBER DIVER News Network

TILLAMOOK, Oregon (19 Jan 2009) — A man died while diving alone in Tillamook Bay off a boat owned by Doug's Diving.

Authorities told CDNN the victim was a resident of Garibaldi in his early 40s.

The man was diving off a RIB apparently with a hooka rig that supplies air through a hose from an onboard compressor.

The owner of Doug's Diving called the Coast Guard to report a missing diver when his customer failed to return before dark.

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay responded with a search that involved at least one patrol boat.

They found the 18-ft RIB anchored in the bay and followed the air hose down to recover the victim's body.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of kin.
