STONEY COVE, UK (27 Jan 2009) — A man in his 30s is dead after another fatal scuba diving accident at Stoney Cove. Authorities have not yet identified the victim who was scuba diving under the supervision of Olympic Scuba, a PADI 5-Star dive shop located in Seaham, County Durham. Witnesses said staff divers employed by Stoney Cove found the victim at depth after he was reported missing at about 1:00pm. They brought the unconcious man to the surface and started CPR. "First aid was administered by the Stoney Cove team and was continued by the emergency services, the casualty was then taken to hospital," a Stoney Cove spokesman said. Leicestershire Police said the victim was taken to Walsgrave hospital where he was pronounced dead. A Health and Safety Executive officials said they were helping police with their investigation. At least 24 scuba divers have died at Stoney Cove, a flooded quarry in Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire that opened for business as a scuba diving park in 1978. |
