MORETON ISLAND, Australia (7 Feb 2009) — Less than a day after two American scuba divers were rescued near Lizard Island, two more missing divers were rescued near Moreton Island. Rescue officials declined to identify the missing divers, but told CDNN they were diving off the Big Cat Reality dive boat near Flinders Reef when they disappeared. The boat crew called for help at about 8:00am and an Energex Community Rescue Helicopter was scrambled to search for the missing scuba divers. The crew of the Sunshine Coast-based chopper spotted the divers about 90 minutes later some 200 meters northeast of the reef. Paramedic Jeff Bradfield, who first spotted the pair in the water, said they had deployed a fluorescent signalling device, which helped the chopper crew spot them in the open ocean. After they spotted the divers, the chopper crew radioed their location to the Big Cat Reality dive boat, which launched a tender to pick them up. Both divers were uninjured and in good condition when they were rescued. |
