GWYNEDD, UK (22 Feb 2009) — An injured diver was airlifted to hospital after another scuba diving accident at Dorothea Quarry.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the 43-year-old male diver who started suffering decompression sickness about 15 minutes after he finished scuba diving.
Other divers called for help and the Coastguard scrambled a rescue helicopter, which took the scuba diving accident victim to a hyperbaric chamber in Wirral.
Dorothea Quarry is a popular scuba diving park where at least 22 divers have died and hundreds more have been injured since 1994.
Due to its poor safety record, local community leaders have criticized the scuba diving park as "problematic" and "dangerous".
Known as the "killer quarry" and "pool of death", in 2005 the facility was sold to a property developer that agreed to make changes aimed at reducing diver injuries and deaths.
Since 1994, at least 22 scuba divers have died and hundreds more have been injured while scuba diving at Dorothea "killer" Quarry.
