DUNBAR, Scotland (23 Feb 2009) — Two scuba divers were rushed to hospital for treatment of decompression sickness after they ascended too rapidly from a depth of 42 meters.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the male and female scuba diving accident victims, both of whom are in their 50s.
Forth Coastguard said they responded to a call for help from scuba divers diving near Dunbar who reported the accident.
Two lifeboats were deployed to take the divers to shore where an ambulance crew was standing by.
The injured divers were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for hyperbaric medical treatment of the bends.
Hospital officials have not yet released information about the condition of the injured scuba divers.
Hyperbaric chambers are used to treat decompression sickness, which can cause debilitating injuries or death.
