Injured man airlifted to hospital after Galicha scuba diving accident

PLYMOUTH, UK (16 Mar 2009) — A man who was seriously injured while scuba diving was airlifted to hospital.

Authorities told CDNN the 45-year-old victim felt ill after diving at the site of the Galicha shipwreck off the Teignmouth coast.

Rescue officials responded to a call for help by scrambling a rescue helicopter at about 12:20 pm.

The Devon Air Ambulance crew winched the injured diver into the helicopter and took him to the Diving Diseases Research Centre in Plymouth.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or his condition.
