Scuba diving accident kills New Zealand man

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (2 Apr 2009) — A diver died in the Hauraki Gulf off Auckland today.

Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim was a middle-aged male who was scuba diving with friends and family off the coast of Little Barrier Island.

Witnesses said that after the man failed to resurface, he was found at depth but died before rescuers could get him back to shore.

The body of the victim was taken to Auckland Hospital where a post-morten exam will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
