FIFE, Scotland (13 Apr 2009) — A diver was airlifted to hospital for treatment of potentially fatal decompression sickness.
Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim was a 51-year-old male from Threlkeld near Keswick who reached a maximum depth of 48 meters.
Back onboard the dive boat, the diver started vomiting and was suffering from a headache and dizziness.
The dive boat crew called for help and the Coastguard scrambled a helicopter that flew the victim to hospital for treatment of decompression sickness in a hyperbaric chamber.
Hospital officials have not released information about the diver's condition.
