SWANAGE, UK (13 Apr 2009) — Another diver was airlifted to hospital for treatment of decompression sickness.
Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim ascended too rapidly while scuba diving near Anvil Point near Swanage.
The crew of the Swanage Diver dive boat immediately alerted the Coastguard of an injured scuba diver emergency and rescue officials scrambled a helicopter.
The injured scuba diver was taken to Poole for medical treatment of decompression sickness in a hyperbaric chamber.
Decompression sickness is a potentially fatal scuba diving injury usually caused by rapid ascents or failure to carry out decompression stops after a long and/or deep dive.
The injured scuba diver was airlifted to hospital for treatment of potentially fatal decompression sickness.
