TOWNSVILLE, Australia (14 Apr 2009) — A 43-year-old scuba diver suffering from potentially fatal decompression sickness was airlifted to hospital.
Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim was flown by CareFlight Learjet from the Gold Coast to Townsville.
The injured scuba diver will receive medical treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.
A second CareFlight Learjet is enroute to Townsville from Papua New Guinea with an injured tourist aboard.
Officials declined to comment on the tourist's condition and the accident that resulted in injuries requiring emergency air transfer to Australia.
