EDMONDS, Washington (17 Apr 2009) — Police and fire-rescue paramedics responded to a call for help after a diver was found unconscious near Edmonds Underwater Park.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the scuba diving accident victim but told CDNN he was found unconscious and unresponsive at the surface by his buddy.
Most scuba divers utilize the "buddy system" in which divers pair up and maintain visual contact to enhance safety.
In this case, the buddy diver pulled his partner to the shore, started CPR and directed bystanders to call police.
The Edmonds Police Department arrived at the scene of the accident at about 5:30 pm and took over CPR.
A few minutes later, Edmonds Fire Department paramedics arrived and rushed the injured diver to Stevens Hospital.
Hospital officials have not yet released details about the victim's condition.
