SOUND OF MULL, Scotland (1 May 2009) — Clyde Coastguard is searching for a diver who disappeared while scuba diving in the Sound of Mull. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the scuba diving accident victim but told CDNN the missing diver is a 62-year-old male who was diving off the Equinox dive boat with other divers. Witnesses said the victim apparently separated from his buddy in strong currents shortly after 2:00 pm on Friday while exploring the wreck of the Thesis. Divers said the water temperature was about seven or eight degrees Celcius and visibility about three to five meters. The crew of the Equinox called for help at about 2:25 pm to report a missing diver emergency. Coastguard officials said the Knock, Tobermory, Craignure and Ross of Mull rescue teams are all searching for the missing diver. Assisting in the search are three vessels including a lifeboat from Oban. An RAF helicopter is also searching the area. CDNN reported that another diver died on Wednesday while scuba diving in the Sound of Mull. Henry Stephen Downs, 38, died after a scuba diving accident at the Rondo wreck, the same dive site where father-of-four Neil Rodgers died last year. |
