DELTA, Pennsylvania (10 May 2009) — Police in Pennsylvania have released the name of the man who died while scuba diving at Guppy Gulch quarry. Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim was Daniel "Marty" Fadrowski, 56, of Sykesville, Maryland. Fadrowski was scuba diving with his 14-year-old son's Boy Scout troop when he died. Friends and family said they were shocked that Fadrowski died of a heart attack, because he was in excellent physical condition for a man in his mid-50s. Melanie Winyall said her brother had many interests and was proficient at carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, and especially sales, which is how he earned a living. The victim's father, Walter Fadrowski, said the his son was a wonderful man who was completely devoted to his familty. "He was one of the greatest guys I knew," Walter Fadrowski said. Scuba diving and heart disease It is not clear to what extent stress factors unique to the use of underwater life support equipment (SCUBA) affect pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease and obesity. Cyber Diver recommends that all certified and uncertified divers including tourists involved in "Discover Scuba" resort courses pass a physical examination within six months of diving. Divers over 50 should successfully pass a cardicac stress test on a treadmill within three months of participation in scuba diving activities. People who have been diagnosed with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease and obesity are advised not to participate in scuba diving activities. |
