Injured UK scuba divers airlifted to hospital

by LUTHER MONROE @ CDNN - CYBER DIVER News Network

WALES, UK (23 May 2009) — A rescue helicopter airlifted two injured scuba divers to hospital.

The divers, both female, were suffering from "the bends", which can kill or permanently disable scuba diving accident victims

Authorities told CDNN both women were diving off a day charter dive boat at Abersoch on the Lleyn Peninsula in Wales.

Witnesses said the divers were injured because they ascended too rapidly.

The divers were flown to the decompression unit in the Wirral by a rescue helicopter crew from RAF Valley on Anglesey.

According to unconfirmed reports, Holyhead Coastguard was in charge of the diver rescue mission.

Hospital officials have not yet released information about the condition of the injured scuba divers.
