Injured UK scuba diver airlifted to hospital

EASTBOURNE, UK — A Solent Coastguard helicopter took the injured diver, who apparently ascended too rapidly, to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim was part of a group on a dive boat about four miles offshore.

Witnesses said the male diver resurfaced almost immediately after descending to start the dive.

The boat crew called for help at about 11:00 am and the Coastguard launched lifeboats from Eastbourne and Newhaven.

The victim was transferred to one of the boats where a doctor started medical treatment.

Meanwhile, a rescue helicoper from Southhampton was scrambled and took the injured diver from the lifeboat to hospital.

Hospital officials have not yet released information about the victim's condition.
