Scuba diving accident kills Lake Tobesofkee diver

LAKE TOBESOFKEE, Georgia — A man died today while scuba diving alone in Lake Tobesofkee.

Authorities told CDNN the scuba diving accident victim was 49-year-old James Tyson of Warner Robbins.

According to the Bibb County sheriff's office, Tyson went to the lake with a friend to test scuba diving equipment.

The friend said Tyson entered the water at a private boathouse off Lake Ridge Drive at about 6:15 pm.

When he failed to return from the dive as planned, the friend called 911 at about 7:45 pm.

A search was launched and the victim was found at about 9:45 pm about 12 meters from the boathouse at a depth of about 4.5 meters..

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bibb County coroner Leon Jones said the man drowned.
