MONTEREY, California — A man died while scuba diving near Monterey off California's Central Coast.
Authorities told CDNN that Alec Piplani, 49, of San Jose, suddenly resurfaced and called for help before he lost consciousness and stopped breathing.
Monterey County coroner's Sgt. Matt Luther said Piplani was taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula but he never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
Luther said Piplani had no known medical conditions and had not been diving in about three years.
The fatal scuba diving accident is under investigation and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
