HARTLEPOOL, UK — Less than a week after three divers died, a man who disappeared while scuba diving off Hartlepool was rescued. Authorities have not yet identified the rescued diver, but told CDNN he was a member of the Stockton Divers club who went missing about 9:00 pm last night. When the diver failed to return to the dive boat as planned, the boat crew put out a mayday call. The Coastguard launched two lifeboats from Redcar, two more lifeboats from Hartlepool and scrambled an RAF Sea King helicopter. After the missing diver had been drifting for about 30 minutes, the crew of the ship, the Norsky, spotted the diver's strobe light. The Hartlepool lifeboat then picked up the diver who was located about six miles northwest of Redcar and three miles northeast of Hartlepool. Coastguard officials said the scuba diving accident victim appeared to be in good condition and praised everyone involved in the successful rescue. , said: "Considering the recent tragedies involving divers off the North-East coast over the last week or so, we're all delighted that on this occasion the diver has been found safe and well," Dave Cocks, of Redcar RNLI, told reporters. "If it hadn't been for the very prompt turnout by the RNLI lifeboats, the diver having the right emergency equipment and the crew of the ship, the Norsky, being particularly vigilant, it could well have been a very different outcome tonight," Cocks added. |
