COMOX, Canada — An autopsy report confirms that a 16-year-old boy died as a result of diver error while scuba diving with his father.

On July 29, CDNN reported that Andrew Paone, 16, of Victoria, died the previous day while scuba diving with his father in Comox at the end of Singing Sands Road.

A subsequent police investigation found that Paone's scuba diving equipment did not malfunction, however, his buoyancy compensator (BC) was negative, indicating he failed to inflate his BC for an emergency ascent.

According to Const. Tammy Douglas, spokesperson for the Comox Valley RCMP, Paone was a competitive swimmer, but a novice diver.

A memorial was held for Paone on Monday at the Gorge Vale Golf Club.
