GLADSTONE, Australia — Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man who drowned on a diving trip in Queensland.
Authorities told CDNN that Jacob Lollback, 20, was snorkel diving and spearfishing near North West Island off Gladstone when he disappeared.
Friends found his body on the seabed soon after they noticed he was missing.
Lollback, a resident of the Gold Coast and member of the Tugun surf club, was a champion lifesafer who won multiple titles in NSW, QLD and Australian championships.
"Jacob was not only a champion life saver but a champion bloke who everyone just loved to be around," said Matt Poole, a friend and fellow lifesafer.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Jacob Lollback, 20, may have been the victim of shallow water blackout.
