Hawaii scuba diving accident kills man off South Point

BIG ISLAND, Hawaii — Police are investigating the death of an unidentified man who apparently drowned this afternoon while scuba diving at South Point on the Big Island.

Authorities told CDNN that a helicopter was scrambled after a bystander called for help at about 6:35 p.m.

The helicopter crew spotted the victim's dive flag about six meters offshore and fire rescue personnel recovered the man's body, which was floating at the surface.

Police are asking anyone with information about the scuba diving accident victim to call (808) 935-3311.
