Autopsy report: Oriskany scuba diving accident victim a 'picture of health'

PENSACOLA, Florida — Equipment failure may have killed a man who died while scuba diving at the Oriskany, the third diver death in Florida waters in three days.

Timothy Teagarden, 51, of Georgia, died on Saturday while diving with Down Under Dive Shop, a PADI 5-star retail store located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

According to Coast Guard spokesman, Lt. James McKnight, two other divers found Teagarden lying unconscious on the deck of the Oriskany, which was sunk by tourism promoters 24 miles southeast of Pensacola to lure divers to the area.

After an autopsy was performed on Monday, Jeff Martin, director of the Medical Examiner's Office in Pensacola, said Teagarden had a "pretty good picture of health".

Authorities told CDNN the focus of their investigation will be on equipment failure and other scenarios that may have led to Teagarden's death.
