BIG ISLAND, Hawaii — A Washington State Superior Court judge died while diving in Hawaii. Authorities told CDNN that John O. Linde, of Friday Harbor, apparently drowned while snorkel diving with a friend off the South Kohala coast of the Big Island. Linde's friend said they entered the ocean at Anaehoomalu Bay at about 9 a.m. The friend returned to shore between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. while Linde continued diving alone. Police said a dive charter boat found Linde floating unconscious, pulled him aboard and started CPR. Attempts to revive the diving accident victim failed and Linde was pronounced dead at North Hawaii Community Hospital at 11:20 a.m. Linde was a private practice attorney in Friday Harbor who was appointed Superior Court judge in San Juan County in 2007 by Gov. Christine Gregoire. In 2008, he won reelection to a four-year term. Linde is survived by his wife, Carol, and adult children, Brian and Kristen. |
