PORTARLINGTON, Australia — A man is in critical condition after he was injured while scuba diving near Portarlington.
Authorities have not yet identified the scuba diving accident victim but told CDNN a man in his 50s was pulled unconscious from the water at about 5:30 pm.
Witnesses said the man was diving with his stepson about 200 meters offshore from the Steeles Rock boat ramp and apparently encountered problems as the pair ascended together on an anchor line.
Family members spotted the victim floating unconscious at the surface, pulled him back onboard their boat and raced back to shore where paramedics were standing by.
Authorities said the paramedics sedated the injured diver and put him into an induced coma before airlifting him to The Alfred hospital where he is in critical condition.
