TOKYO, Japan (3 Aug 2000) -- Cubans rolled out the red carpet for tourists, tourist agents and journalists arriving on the first direct flights from Japan. Japan Airlines has cut a deal with the state operated Cuban tourism company Cubanacan to schedule four direct charter flights from Osaka, Japan. According to tourism officials in Japan, flights will be scheduled regularly if there are enough Japanese interested to make the trips worth the cost. Over 4,000 Japanese tourists visit Cuba every year and many believe that figure could exceed 20,000 with direct flights to the Caribbean island nation. | | Kenya Uno, chief political and economic officer for the Japanese Embassy in Havana, said that the success of project will depend on Cuba's ability to meet Japanese demand for first-class services. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
