PAPEETE, French Polynesia (25 December 2000) -- Employees of SOMCAT, the company that provides fuel to Tahiti's international airport have called a five-day strike stranding at least 800 travelers.

The stranded tourists are awaiting flights with Air France and AOM from Faa airport, the international gateway to French Polynesia.

The strikers are demanding improved security and hygiene and the strike is expected to be lifted on Saturday, August 26.
