LOMBOK, Indonesia (27 Sept 2000) -- Fighting between Muslims and Christians has broken out again on the resort island of Lombok near Bali and in the Moluccas.

The renewed violence follows a series of bombings over the past few months in the capital city of Jakarta.

Thousands have died in the Moluccas, Aceh Province and Lombok Island since 1999 in fighting between Muslims and Christians.

The violence has destroyed tourism in the Moluccas, severely crippled the tourist industry on Lombok Island and threatens to spill over into the tourist haven of Bali.
