RAROTONGA, Cook Islands (25 Feb 2005) -- Two hotels have shut down in the wake of cyclone damage to the Cook Islands, a renowned scuba diving destination.

The Avana Marina Condominiums will be closed until at least mid-April to repair damage caused to all but two units by Cyclone Nancy.

Owner Bryn Donovan said that water damage was severe despite shutters designed to protect the ocean-front studio suites. The resort pool was also damaged.

In Arorangi, the Crown Beach Resort also announced that it will close until at least the end of April to repair damage caused by Cyclone Olaf.

During the closure, the resort will renovate and upgrade the restaurant and bar, refurbish the interior of the resort villas and improve the property with extensive landscaping.
