PHUKET, Thailand (8 Apr 2005) -- The U.S. State Department has advised travelers to avoid southern Thailand in the wake of escalating, indiscriminate violence by Muslim extremists.

On April 3-4, two were killed and more than 70 wounded in terrorist bombings that targeted tourist areas and one international airport.

Since January 2004, nearly 800 people have been killed in bombings and hit and run shootings by Muslim terrorists.

The terrorists have threatened to target Phuket and other popular tourist areas in Thailand if their demands are not met.
