PAPEÉTE, Tahiti (14 July 2006) -- Air New Zealand suspends its Singapore service and, according to the Independent Financial Review in New Zealand, the airline is examining of frequency of its operations to Tahiti.

"At this stage no decision has been made," Francis Mortimer, Air New Zealand Manager in Tahiti, told Tahitipresse. "Air New Zealand is going through a review of all its operations. The cost of fuel is a major issue as it keeps on going up and up and we are unable to control it. But this is nothing new for us. We are constantly analyzing everything quite closely. At this stage no decision has been made," he added

The Air New Zealand manager noted that the airline has "been here for 55 years and Tahiti is a significant part of the Air New Zealand network."

"As a matter of fact, I received this morning the schedule of our flights from October to March and we have exactly the same number of flights than in the previous schedule for Auckland and Los Angeles," Mortimer said.

The airline has four Auckland-Papeéte weekly flights and three Los Angeles-Papeéte weekly flights.
