Police find body of murdered Dutch woman

by CARMEN SANCHEZ @ CDNN - CYBER DIVER News Network

BONAIRE (22 Oct 2008) — Police have found the body of a young Dutch woman who was murdered in Bonaire last month.

Marlies van der Kouwe, 24, was dragged off her bicycle on September 21 as she returned from an evening beach party in Kralendijk, Bonaire's capital.

Police found her decapitated body about five kilometers from where she was attacked.

Police incompetence

Although witnesses saw Van der Kouwe being attacked and friends quickly alerted authorities, the police did nothing for 36 hours after the assault was reported.

Van der Kouwe had been in Bonaire for several weeks as part of her internship as a pharmacy assistant.

Authorities said her body will be flown back to the Netherlands later this week.

Five suspects have been arrested and three remain in custody.
