PAPEETE, French Polynesia — Two tourists have been quarantined in hospital after one tested positive for swine flu.
Health officials in Papeete told CDNN a thermal camera detected a young woman with a fever as she arrived from Los Angeles at the Tahiti-Faa'a international airport
The following day, the Malardé institute laboratory in Papeete confirmed the woman was infected with influenza A (H1N1).
As a precaution the women's boyfriend was also quarantined and officials are monitoring other tourists who were seated on the airplane near the infected woman.
To date, more than 300 swine flu cases have been confirmed in Australia, more than 100 in Hawaii and 5 suspected cases in New Caledonia.
A young American woman confirmed to be infected with influenza A (H1N1) and her boyfriend will spend their Tahiti holiday in hospital.
