CAIRNS, Australia (1 Dec 2003) -- ANOTHER tourist is dead after a diving incident off Cairns in which a dive boat skipper jumped into the water in a vain rescue attempt. The 48-year-old UK man was the seventh victim of diving or snorkeling incidents in Queensland waters this year. He was diving off Saxon Reef at about 2.35pm on Sunday. After an introductory scuba course earlier in the day with Australia's largest privately owned dive company, Down Under Dive, he was taking a second dive with three others and an instructor. When he called for help The skipper of the MV Super Cat, which took the divers to Saxon Reef, responded in the rescue tender. | | "As he arrived beside the diver the diver sank below the surface and the skipper had to dive into the water to bring him back to the surface," Dive Queensland spokesman Col McKenzie said.
