DAUIN, Philippines (24 Jan 2004) -- A Norwegian national on a scuba diving trip was found dead yesterday about one kilometer from the shore off barangay Masaplod Norte, in Dauin town. Police Inspector Artemio Solamillo, Dauin police chief, identified the victim as Ulad Hansen, 56. Hansen's body was found by members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Water Operations Unit headed by Jonathan Alerre around noon. Police said that Hansen was with a group of six other Norwegians and three local guides who went diving at the marine sanctuary of Masaplod Norte at 9 a.m. They learned that Hansen was missing after they came ashore two hours later. | | Hansen's body was brought to the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete. Police said Dauin Municipal Health Officer Dr. Milfa Yee was to perform an autopsy later yesterday afternoon. No other details were immediately available. Dauin is known internationally as a dive destination primarily because of Apo Island, considered as the Philippines' first successful example of Community-Based Coastal Resources Management.
