WEST GRAND TRAVERSE BAY, Michigan (16 July 2004) -- Metro police Field Training Officer Scott Baswell died Wednesday as the result of a diving accident while on vacation in Michigan, police said.

Baswell, 38, a nine-year department veteran, was scuba diving with a group when the accident occurred. A Michigan native, he was diving in West Grand Traverse Bay, a part of Lake Michigan.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene. Other divers had recovered Baswell's body from 50 feet of water and attempted to give him cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
