CAPE HATTERAS, North Carolina (17 August 2004) --  A Coast Guard helicopter airlifted a scuba diver Tuesday off a chartered fishing vessel 20 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras.

The 50-year-old Miami man chartered the 41-foot vessel Sea Bear to go diving at the Monitor Marine Sanctuary off the North Carolina coast.

The Coast Guard says the man resurfaced from a 235-foot ascent unconcious and without a pulse. The crew of Sea Bear began CPR and administered oxygen to the man. According to the Coast Guard, he regained his pulse and breathing, and aproximately 30 minutes later, the man regained conciousness.

At about 2:00 p.m., the man was transported to Sentara Leigh General Hospital.
