SUVA, Fiji (6 Sep 2004) -- Government officials in Fiji have called off the search for two scuba divers missing off Viti Levu since last Tuesday.

The missing divers - Dan Grenier, a 54-year-old scuba diving instructor, and Danielle Gibbons, a 27-year-old scuba student - went missing last Tuesday while boat diving in Vatu-i-Ra Passage, off Rakiraki.

Although the government launched an extensive search, no trace of the divers was ever found.

Relatives of Gibbons, who flew to Fiji and launched their own aerial search, harshly criticized governments of both Australia and Fiji for their failure to deploy aircraft to search for the missing divers.

Grenier owned and operated Crystal Divers, a PADI dive center based on the island of Nananu-i-Ra off Viti Levu.
