UK scuba diver dies after canal lock accident

FORTHAMPTON, UK (17 Oct 2004) -- A commercial scuba diver has died in hospital after he was trapped under water while doing routine maintenance on a canal lock.

The diver was airlifted to Cheltenham General Hospital after a colleague pulled him from the water at Upper Lode Lock, Forthampton near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire.

According to local police, the diver was in critical condition and died in hospital.

 

Police and Health and Safety Executive officials are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
