Sheraton Moorea evacuates guests, staff after bomb scare

PAPE'ETE, Tahiti, French Polynesia (28 Oct 2001) -- An alert was declared Thursday at the Sheraton Hotel of Moorea, in the Windward Islands, following a bomb threat telephone call.

The hotel immediately evacuated 160 tourists and 100 employees.

 

Police and fire department personnel responded within minutes.  Nothing suspicious was found following an investigation of the site.

Police declared the call a hoax.
