SUVA, Fiji (25 July 2002) -- More than 1,000 tourists are stranded in Fiji after Air Pacific workers walked off their jobs.

The workers are striking over pay and other job related issues.

Air Pacific managing director John Campbell told CDNN that flights to Sydney and Brisbane have been canceled as well as flights to Tonga and Samoa.

Air Pacific management has asked Quantas staff to fill in for striking workers to get a flight to Australia in the air.

Fiji's tourism industry was crippled by a coup in May 2000 but in the last six months has started to show signs of recovery.
