MAJURO, Marshall Islands (11 Dec 2004) -- Scuba divers who want to dive Bikini Atoll will soon find it more difficult to get to the Marshall Islands.

Aloha Air has announced it will discontinue service to the Marshall Islands and America Samoa on January 10, 2005.

According to Aloha's new president David Banmiller, a former Air Jamaica executive, the weekly flights to the Marshalls have been losing money due to insufficient demand.

"The airline did its best to be responsive to island communities in the remote Pacific region, but can no longer use valuable assets with a consistently negative return," Banmiller told reporters.

Only last December, Aloha announced a service upgrade on the Marshall Islands route with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft flying first to Kwajalein and then on to Majuro.

Passengers who have booked Aloha fights to and from the Marshalls and Samoa after January 5 will be rebooked on other airlines.
